Kericho County is gearing up to host the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations, but it comes with certain traffic and logistical adjustments.
The Rift Valley Regional Commissioner (RC), Abdi Hassan, on Wednesday, October 19, issued a directive for motorists, affecting road usage and access in and around Kericho.
The changes, according to the RC, are aimed at ensuring orderly movement and enhanced security during the event.
Hassan made known that vehicles with red and blue plates would be the only ones allowed to pass through Kericho, with other motorists advised to use alternative routes.
Public service vehicles will not have access to the main streets of the town; instead, they will drop passengers off in designated areas.
Additionally, the Kericho main stage will be closed to the public and reserved as a parking stage for the vulnerable and the aged.
Notably, Moi Garden ACK Church and Immanuel will serve as reserved parking areas for VIPs, VVIPs, diplomats, and service providers.
“Moi Garden ACK Church and Immanuel are reserve parking for VIP, VVIP, Diplomats and service providers whose vehicles will have the red, blue and white stickers respectively for identification,” the regional commissioner said.
Interior Principal Secretary, Raymond Omollo earlier this week confirmed that Kericho is fully prepared to host the national event, which will be presided over by President William Ruto.
Speaking after he inspected various infrastructural projects including the Kericho Green Stadium which will host the event on Friday, October 20, Omollo said that this year’s Mashujaa celebrations will focus on Universal Health Care, aligning with one of the key pillars of Kenya Vision 2030.
