American music icon Madonna Louise Ciccone, known as Madonna, is in Kenya and has created a beautiful mural of broken glass in Kibera, Nairobi.

Posting on her Instagram account Tuesday evening, the Grammy-award winner shared photos and videos of her creating the artistic “tree of life” mural together with her children.

The 65-year-old star wrote that the mural is in honour of “the great work that Kennedy Odede is doing” for Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO).

Madonna said Odede created the organization “when he was a child living in the slums of Nairobi to improve the lives of families living in these challenging conditions.”

She added that they are impressed with Odede’s work “and his commitment to this community and excited to continue working with him and his wife Jessica.”

SHOFCO is a grassroots movement based in Nairobi and New York USA, which focuses on providing filtered water, education, and enabling loans for women and men to start businesses.

Madonna described it as an organization created to focus on “putting up a stop to gender-based violence by empowering women, taking legal action and giving them a safe space to rebuild their lives.”

On her Instagram stories, the pop star is seen touring parts of Kibera including the SHOFCO Kibera School for Girls, a library, an art gallery and even posed in front of a motorbike engraved “Jesus saves” to which Madonna captioned “Facts”.

Her visit to the East African powerhouse follows her stay in Malawi where she ushered in the new year.

Through her organization Rising Malawi, she has been at the forefront of offering support to orphans in Malawi.

Founded in 2006, Raising Malawi supports orphans and vulnerable children with critical resources including education, medical care, food and shelter, and psychosocial support.
