
Police in Homa Bay on Wednesday night arrested five suspects who were planning to disrupt the ongoing tallying process in Homa Bay town and Kabondo Kasipul constituencies.
The police also recovered weapons and a teargas canister.
In Homa Bay town, the security officers arrested four men who were armed with knives, clubs and a teargas canister near Tom Mboya University which is the county tallying centre.
Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskey said the suspects were walking 500 metres from the gate of the county tallying centre when police intercepted and arrested them in possession of the weapons before they were taken to Homa Bay police station.
In Kabondo Kasipul, police recovered a homemade gun from a suspect who tried to gain entry into the constituency tallying centre at Ringa boys high school.
The suspect who was with another man was confronted by police officers who were manning the gate at the centre.
According to a police report, the two men walked to the school and introduced themselves as security and a chief agent of one of the MCA candidates.
