After his recent legal victory in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, American actor Johnny Depp has opened a TikTok account.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star joined the popular video-sharing platform as @johnnydepp, garnering over 2.6 million followers as of Tuesday.

“Occasional Thespian” is how the 58-year-old describes himself on his bio, but he is yet to share or like any video. He does not follow anyone on the platform, either.

A Virginia court last week awarded Depp Ksh.1.7 billion ($15 million) after he sued Heard for defamation over a 2018 opinion piece she published in The Washington Post newspaper.

Ms. Heard, who herself has starred in films such as Aquaman, called herself a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse,’ without mentioning Depp’s name.

The actor’s legal team said that Heard had ‘concocted the story in hopes of generating positive publicity and to advance her career.’

In the June 1 ruling, the jury also found Depp liable for one claim of defamation, and ordered him to pay Heard Ksh.233 million ($2 million) in damages.

While all this was going on, the hashtag #JohnnyDepp garnered more than 33.5 billion views on TikTok, while #JusticeForJohnnyDepp raked in 15 billion views.

A sarcastic hashtag #AmberTurd was even coined, which amassed 4.3 billion views while #JusticeforAmberHeard had 85.9 million views.

Depp would later take to Facebook and Instagram, writing: “Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed.”
