With only 70 days until the August General Elections, Nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion has called for the electoral process to be digitized in order to prevent any electoral malpractices.

During an interview on Citizen TV’s Daybreak Show on Tuesday, Sossion stressed the importance of having a digitized system, which, he claims, will allow for immediate results transmission and ensure process credibility.

“Going by history there has always been a deliberate interference of the electoral process in this country,” noted Sossion.

“And one of the key recommendations is that we must completely digitalize our electoral system and that results must be transmitted digitally and in real time.”

The lawmaker warned that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is vulnerable to fraudsters, urging the electoral body to be vigilant and persuade Kenyans of a transparent process.

“Indeed there are professional fraudsters authorized by the interest to interfere with the process to defeat free and credible elections. Still we run risk of those greedily interfering with the electoral process,” noted Sossion.

“The IEBC should rise to the occasion and there is need to convince all the players in the electoral process of a credible process.”

Meanwhile, the IEBC’s newly installed CEO, Marjan Hussein Marjan, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to ensuring fair elections in August.

They also exuded confidence in dealing with election-related turbulence, assuring that this election would be unlike any other in the past.
