The weeknd partnered with the World Food Program USA, a UN World Food Programme affiliate, to send over the money toward relief efforts to the country.
The superstar who is of Ethiopian descent took to Instagram to share the good news.
He wrote: “My heart breaks for my people of Ethiopia as innocent civilians ranging from small children to the elderly are being senselessly murdered and entire villages are being displaced out of fear and destruction.”
The musician, said the money will be used to provide 2 million meals to displaced Ethiopians.
He also encouraged other people who have money to donate and help the innocent people of Ethiopia.
